New Advocate General Ashok Parija Takes Charge

Bhubaneswar: Newly-appointed Advocate General of Odisha Ashok Parija assumed charge of his duties on Wednesday in Cuttack. He took over the role from former AG Surya Prasad Mishra.

"The office is already functioning very efficiently. I don't know if I deserve this post but the Chief Minister has entrusted me with a very important responsibility. I will try to fulfill the duties to the best of my abilities," he said.

"I am a lawyer first. I will consult my team of law officers, hold discussions and work accordingly. This office will function like a family," he added.

"As this is my first day, I will be able to give my plan after seven days. We will form a document after taking suggestions from everyone and I hope that Government cooperates with us," he said. 

Born in 1961, Parija was enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Odisha at the age of 23. He started his practice under former Advocate General Bijoy Mahanti.

Parija was designated as a senior advocate in 2003 and elected as a member to the State Bar Council in March 2008. The same year in August, he became member of Bar Council of India. Parija was elected Chairman of Bar Council of India in July 2011.
