Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister today presented actor and head of the newly-formed political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, Kamal Haasan with an honorary doctoral degree (honoris causa) for his great contribution to cinema in the last six decades.
Haasan was conferred with the honorary doctoral degree by the Centurion University at a special function held at the varsity campus here.
Both Patnaik and Haasan toured the verdant green beautiful campus of the University.
Patnaik first visited the 'transformer workshop' of the University where he interacted with girl students taking training under the 'Skilled in Odisha' programme.
Later the Chief Minister took a tour of the 'Wood Engineering and Waste to Wealth Centre' etc and the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship which is functioning directly with assistance from Odisha government's 'Startup Odisha' programme.
Besides, the Chief Minister also interacted with students over their preparations for the World Skill Development Competition-2021.
The short duration function arranged for conferment of the doctorate degree to the veteran cine star started with the singing of the national anthem by differently-abled students.
Immediately after the singing of the national anthem Chancellor of Centurion University Prof. Supriya Patnaik welcomed the guests, followed by the presentation of an honorary doctorate degree to Kamal Haasan by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
After being honoured with the doctorate degree, Haasan expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the University authorities.
