Naveen Patnaik Condoles Demise Of Brother-In-Law

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the demise of his brother-in-law Sonny Mehta, husband of renowned writer Gita Mehta.

Taking to Twitter, CM tweeted, “I am deeply grieved by the passing away of my brother in law Sonny Mehta (Husband of my sister Gita Mehta). He was one of the world's best editors and an extremely civilized person. May his soul rest in peace.”


Late Sonny Mehta was among the first of independent India's diplomats. He was the editor-in-chief of Alfred A. Knopf and chairman of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Mehta won Lifetime Achievement Awards for publishing in India, the UK and the United States. He has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Bard College.

Mehta was married to world-renowned author/journalist Gita Mehta (nee Patnaik) who is the elder sister of Odisha’s five-time Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
