Naveen Congratulates Mamata On 41% Reservation For WB Women In Lok Sabha

12 March 2019

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday was in all praises for his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over women's reservation in Lok Sabha.

Soon after Mamata released Trinamool Congress list for all 42 WB seats and announced that 41 per cent of the nominees in the list are women, Naveen greeted her on Twitter.

"Immensely happy to see All India Trinamool Congress led by @MamataOfficial nominate over one-third #women candidates for ensuing #LokSabhaElections2019. With the gathering momentum, India could see a sea change in electoral & development domain," the Odisha Chief Minister tweeted.

Naveen has led the women's reservation issue which has now gained momentum at the national level. Apart from writing to PM Narendra Modi on this matter, Naveen has also sought cooperation from all political parties and Chief Ministers to gather support on women's reservation in Parliament.

In November 2018, the Odisha Government passed the resolution seeking implementation of 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Leading by example, the Odisha Chief Minister on Sunday announced to reserve 33% seats for women in upcoming general elections. "I would like to announce here at Kendrapara, the 'karma bhoomi' of legendary Biju Babu, that Odisha will send 33 per cent women to Parliament in the coming elections," Naveen said at an SHG convention on March 10.
