Angul: Contractual worker Mithun Nath, who was among the four workers injured in National Aluminium Company (NALCO) plant fire mishap here last week, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in New Delhi on Thursday.
Following his death, NALCO authorities expressed their deep grief towards the bereaved family members. Meanwhile, his family along with locals staged a protest placing the dead body infront of the main gate of the plant. They demanded Rs 30 lakh ex-gratia and a job to one of his family members.
Cops and CISF personnel were deployed at the spot to control the situation. It is notable to mention here that a fire broke out in the plant on July 23 due to flashover in high-voltage panel board of Smelter Casthouse-B. Four persons, including a woman, suffered critical burn injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack. Later, Mithun had been shifted to a hospital in New Delhi after his condition deteriorated.
NALCO stated that it is committed to facilitate employment for Nath's spouse Ambika Nath in one of the Contractual establishment of NALCO at Angul. “Nalco has borne all the expenses towards medical treatment of Shri Nath, including travel of the patient and his relatives, as well as all the incidental expenses,” the Aluminum major stated in a press release today.
NALCO has offered a compensation of Rs 15 lakh, EDLI lumsum benefit under EDLI of Rs 2.50 lakh and immediate funeral expenses under ESIC scheme of Rs 15,000. Besides, the monthly benefits of Rs 16,596 under ESIC scheme and monthly pension of Rs 2,400 will be payable to the deceased worker's wife, the company stated.
