Cuttack: Farmers under the banner of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan with the demand of ‘price, prestige and pension’, protested Electronic Voting Machines across the State and created hurdles for the polling parties to reach their booths ahead of the third phase polls on Tuesday (April 23).
In Cuttack, hundreds of farmers protested in front Bose engineering college with an aim to resist the polling parties just when the polling officials were getting ready to leave for their booths after collecting handbook, indelible ink, EVM, VVPAT and voter list.
However, police prevented the farmers’ efforts of creating ruckus 50 metres away from the college. When asked about their motive behind opposing polling parties, they said, “Sons of farmers have no jobs. There is no water to irrigate our land. No proper food. No right amount of pension. So, we protest EVMs as we do not want elections.”
Similarly, farmers of NKS protested in front of Keonjhar mining college as well. In Khurda, the activist of NKS tried to lock the EVM disposal centre and 20 among them were held by Town police. Many also protested outside sub-collector’s office in Dhenkanal.
