Bhubaneswar: The wife of IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Tushima Mishra today raised questions on his arrest. Addressing a presser at Cuttack on Friday, Mishra said that her husband was innocent and has been framed.
"The manner in which a senior IAS officer (Bijay Ketan) was picked up by the Vigilance officials when he was on duty is not legal. They have found no incriminating documents from our house. Besides, we have no Benami properties," she said.
Bijay Ketan, who was serving as Director of Horticulture, was arrested by the Vigilance on December 30 over bribery charges. Mishra dismissed the allegations levelled against Bijay Ketan and said that he was never caught red-handed as claimed by the Vigilance.
"The sleuths forcibly placed the cash in the hand of the private banker in question and charged my husband of accepting bribe through him," she said. It is a false and fabricated case, she said.
"Apart from Bijay Ketan, there are other earning members in our family and all our bank deposits and assets are legitimate." Mishra also said that her husband duly deserves a bail.
"He is not a hard-core criminal, then why has he not been granted bail so far. It is all a conspiracy, and he is being made a scapegoat," she said.
