Cuttack: With relaxation period of amended Motor Vehicles Act (2019) ending on Saturday, the traffic police swung into action and set-up several checkpoints across the silver city. In one such case a minor was caught driving and as per rules his father was fined.

As per reports, the minor was caught at Madhupatna Traffic Tower by the vigilant Traffic Police. The minor had no documents on him, was sans helmet and like cherry on the top was driving while using a mobile phone. With three month relaxation period for documents underway, the youth was charged for only driving without helmet and using phone and fined with Rs 6000.

His father, Surendra Kumar Sahoo, accepted the mistake committed by his ward. Even though fined, he welcomed the MV Act and said that citizens must follow traffic rules for their own safety.

In another incident, a youth trying to flee a checking point at high speed instead hit two traffic officials. All three of them suffered minor injuries. After primary treatment, the youth was taken to the nearest police station and is being held there.
