Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), in order to achieve its goal of effective waste management through the involvement and participation of all, organised an orientation programme at IDCOL Auditorium here on Monday involving heads of various schools under its jurisdiction to promote child ambassador for the purpose.
Sanitation is the primary focus of any urban local body. This needs to be participatory to ensure a behavior change model for an effective management of waste. With this objective the BMC has devised a behavior change model of promoting child ambassador to percolate message of participatory waste management approach.
The campaign designed in this regard is called 'Mu Safaiwala' under which all school children will solemnly pledge for 10 important points of sanitation behavior which in turn would motivate them to be a change agent for bringing desired sanitation behavior ensuring waste management for a clean and eco-friendly Bhubaneswar.
Both government and private schools under the BMC area will be covered in the campaign. As per the strategy this will be a three phased campaign. The time line set for the purpose is October 2, 2019, November 14 , 2019 and 1st week of January 2020.
In the second half of the event, 80 Resident Welfare Associations participated. They were oriented on micro composting centres (MCC), drum composting, waste segregation, reducing plastic and inside water management. For dry waste they may seek support of BMC. They were asked to promote the 'Mu Safaiwala' pledge in their respective societies.
