Bhubaneswar: Though exact date of monsoon arriving in the State is yet to be predicted, it may hit Odisha coast six to seven days after touching Kerala, said Meteorologist of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, LK Giri, on Saturday.

As per the latest weather forecast monsoon has hit the Kerala coast today and there are favourable conditions for its further advancement towards remaining parts of South Andaman Sea, Lakshadweep and some parts of Tamil Nadu.

If a low pressure area forms over northwest Bay of Bengal the monsoon will advance further and touch Odisha coast within the presumed time, he added.

Thunderstorm warning has been issued for districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Puri and Nayagarh for the next 48 hours. However, rainfall will continue to lash several parts of the State for the next five days, said Giri.

He also informed that the State has received 7 per cent excess rainfall from June 1 till date.
