Bhubaneswar: To diagnose cancer from first stage SCB Medical College and Hospital has setup a molecular geonomic testing and research centre in its Biochemistry department.
Such a centre is the first for any State government-run medical college in the coutry. The centre was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda on Friday.
The centre will facilitate diagnosis and cure of breast, uterus and lung cancer at an early (first) stage. The patients who are affected by Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Human papillomavirus (HPV) can also be detected at this centre.
Earlier tests during cancer treatment costed between Rs 25,000 to Rs 4 lakh. Now with this centre in place at the SCB Medical College, patients can avail the facility free of cost.
This apart, the centre will also aid the genetic examination of spondilities, sickle cell anemia, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart related diseases.
