Sambalpur: A team of Mumbai's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Tuesday arrested Odisha-based NGO, BISWA's chief Khirod Mallick and his son Debabrat on charges of financial irregularities. Khirod is the brother of Odisha MLA Pramila Mallick.
The two were arrested by a special team of Mumbai EOW from Sambalpur. According to a senior police official, a warrant was pending against the two in a chit fund case which was executed by the Mumbai police today.
Mallick runs his NGO Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA) from Sambalpur. Earlier in October 2014, Khirod was arrested by Odisha's EOW on similar charges.
Mallick was running an NBFC which flouted the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) licence and collected deposits to the tune of about Rs 10 crore from small investors in the Odisha.
