Bhubaneswar: Newly elected Aska MP Pramila Bisoyi has written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to expedite the search operation for missing IAF aircraft An-32. Flight Lieutenant Sunit Mohanty, a native for Kabisuryanagar in Aska of Ganjam district, is one among the 13 crew members who went off the radar with the aircraft.

“Sunit Mohanty belongs to my constituency, Aska of district Ganjam, Odisha. His parents are quite disturbed and with folded hands apprised me of the situation. It was very painful to see their plights and hence requesting you to expedite the search operation of the missing IAF AN-32 flight and bring back Mr Mohanty along with other members who were on board,” the letter states.

On the other hand, Sunit’s father and retired Air Force officer Surendranath Mohanty said that he has emailed the Prime Minister and has spoken to Chief of Air Staff regarding the replacement of the aircraft. “It is a forty-year-old design and has many structural defects. I speak from experience as I have also flown the AN-32 for five years,” he added.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh government on Saturday engaged local village headmen in search operations on the ground and the IAF announced a Rs five lakh reward for any information about the ill-fated plane.

On June 3, the transport plane with 13 people on board went off the radar after taking off from Jorhat Airbase in Assam for the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
