Koraput: In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after receiving a bullet injury here on Friday.

The incident occurred at Jeypore's Kiabandha Sahi when, the girl in question, was coming out of the washroom in her house. According to reports, her father, K Satyanarayana, who was present at home, was also injured with the same bullet. On the night of Holi, a violent clash with stone pelting broke out between two groups of two villages over past enmity while they had gone to take bath in a nearby canal.

The girl was profusely bleeding, while Satyanarayana sustained injuries on his earlobe. The two were first taken to Jeypore hospital from where, the minor girl was shifted to Koraput district headquarters hospital.

The minor's condition is stated to be critical as she received the shot on her chest. The incident sparked tension in the tribal dominated area. SP KV Singh and SDPO Sagraika Nath rushed to the spot and initiated an inquiry.

According to reports, four platoons of BSF personnel and three platoons of police force have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. SP KV Singh, IPS Sagarika Nath and four Inspectors In-charges (IICs) have also been deployed in the locality.

A peace committee meeting between the two groups is expected to resolve the tensions.
