Bhubaneswar: Harish Chandra Baxipatra was a political activist who devoted himself to safeguard the interests of the common man and their welfare. The manner in which he worked for the cause of the peasants, working class and tribals is unmatched, noted Sociologist, Dipankar Gupta said.
Addressing a memorial function organised for Baxipatra, the former Law Minister of Odisha, Gupta said, the youth of the country today are ambitious and full of energy. To ensure that our youths drive this nation correctly towards prosperity, we must analyse the past, examine the present and try our best to facilitate the future.
"When I look back, I realise how much rural India has changed from what it used to be. When I was in college, rural India was dominated by landlords. Things changed as I grew up. Abolition of zamindari after India's independence changed the face of rural India," he added.
Addressing the function, Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal said, legendary living is in identifying a cause. "A cause which becomes larger than life. A cause for which one can sacrifice everything. Such was the personality of Harischandra Baxipatra." He worked for the people, the poorest of the poor and aroused faith in them, Prof Lal added.
Addressing the function, former Odisha Minister Bijoy Mahapatra said that Baxipatra was a leader who united youth wing, labour wing and students wing of the party. His contribution to Odisha is unmatched and he will remain our political guru.
Former DG Police, BB Mihsra said that Baxipatra was a magnificent personality. "Born in Rayagada, MLA of Koraput for three terms. He was a powerful and effective Minister. Transperancy, fearlessness and helpful, these were his traits which made this leader unique."
