Bhubaneswar: After dropping her daughter at a friend's house, a woman named Abhijeeta Mohapatra of GGP colony was happily on her way to the market. Little did she know that an unpleasant surprise was waiting for her.

The incident occurred in Malaya Bihar area of Rasulgarh today afternoon. Two chain snatchers intercepted Abhijeeta’s way and asked her for directions. “I was not able to understand what they were saying so I asked them again. That is when, they pushed me and tried to snatch my chain,” she said putting on a brave face.

“I fell down and was taken aback. I immediately resisted their bid and tightly caught hold of my gold chain. They were violently trying to snatch away the ornament from my neck but I held on to my chain. I fought against their advances for five minutes and in the meanwhile screamed for help. Two local youths came to my rescue,” she said, proudly explaining the entire scenario despite sustaining bruise marks on her neck and face.

While one of the accused was nabbed and booked under section 394 of IPC by Mancheswar police, cops have launched a manhunt to nab the other. On the other hand, the woman has been receiving a lot of praise for her heroic act.

Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty felicitated Abhijeeta with a cash reward of Rs 5000 and a letter of appreciation for showing exemplary courage in defending against the bike borne robbers.

While others would have let the miscreants overpower them out of fear, this woman has showed us how to face all challenges because ‘When there is a will, there is a way’. Looks like we have a female ‘Dabangg’ amidst us!
