Boudh: Twelve-year-old Jagannath Nayak always had a penchant for music. He grew up hearing the beats of his father’s ‘Mrudanga’ and starting beatboxing the percussion instrument sub-consciously. And without any prior training, he now not only efficiently imitates the drum beats but also creates symphonies of his own. A video of him beatboxing went viral on social media platforms and his fans grew overnight.

Jagannath is a Class VII student of Khatakhatia Nodal Upper Primary School in Kantamal block of the Boudh district. He uses his hands and mouth to imitate the sounds of a ‘Mrudanga’. What started as a simple pastime has helped him garner accolades over time.

His teachers were initially surprised at his unusual talent, but encouraged him to hone his art. Over time, Jagannath has only improved and can easily give contention to professional beatboxers.
