31 October 2019

Bhubaneswar: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has sought details from Odisha Government on the arrest of Good News India founder Faiz Rehman. The matter was raised by US Senator Charles Ernest Grassley who wrote to Indian Ambassador to look into the matter and expedite the legal process.

Rehman was operating in Dhenkanal district and was arrested on December 2, 2018 following allegations of misconduct against minor boy and girls. He is also facing charges of sexually abusing minor girls at the shelter home in Dhenkanal district.

The US Senator had written to India’s Ambassador to the US, Harsh Vardhan Shringla on August 1. “I have been contacted by the lowans about the case of Rahman expressing their concerns that he is being unjustly persecuted because of his religion as a practicing Christian. I ask that your government look into the case, that it be given every consideration under applicable Indian law and that it be resolved as speedily as possible.”

On October 16, the Ministry of External Affairs had sent the same letter to Odisha Government through Chief Resident Commissioner TK Pandey seeking details and status of Rehamn's case.
