Angul: The agitation by BJP workers following the death of three persons in a landslide at the Bharatpur opencast mine in Talcher Coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) came to an end on Wednesday.

The BJP had been demanding a high-level probe and adequate compensation to the families of the deceased. Besides, they have been demanding a safety audit of all mines in the region.

In a tripartite meeting between the agitators, district administration and MCL authorities today, it was decided that the probe of the incident will be conducted by Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR). Besides, special guidelines on safety norms for mines and compensation for work-related injury will be framed.

Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan informed that the MCL has assured to provide permanent job and adequate compensation to kin of the deceased within eight days. Besides, they have ensured to maintain safety at the mines.
