Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena might be called for interrogation if required in connection with engineering student Asutosh Mohanty aka Rishi’s death case.

Confirming the news, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said if the investigating officer (IO) feels then police will definitely seek Mayor’s physical deposition for interrogation.

“The IO is conducting investigation and statements of some friends of Rishi have already been recorded. We have sought report from the doctors to take forward the investigation,” the DCP informed the media.

Speaking on whether Mayor will be questioned, the DCP said if the investigating officer feels then we might call the Mayor to depose personally.

Besides, the city police on Monday also summoned mother and sister of Rishi to appear before it for questioning, Bhoi added.

Police sources said the viscera reports stated that Rishi’s death was due to excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs. The police have decided to seek a second opinion of doctors before arriving at a conclusion on the cause of death. As the investigation progresses, more witnesses are likely to be quizzed within a couple of days.
