Paradip: Hundreds of members of Pradesh Congress Committee and District Congress Committee of Jagatsinghpur resigned from the party on Friday protesting the decision to field Arindam Sarkhel alias Bapi Sarkhel from Paradip assembly constituency.

While Niranjan Patnaik after his re-appointment as the OPCC chief had annouced that persons with criminal background have no place in the party, he has given the ticket to an outsider (Bapi) who has committed heinous crimes in Paradip, the outgoing party leaders alleged.

They questioned what lured Niranjan to give the ticket to Bapi who had earlier burnt the effigies of Congress leader Chiranjib Biswal and his father and even alleged it as a conspiracy of Biswal.

In protest a meeting was held with OPCC's grassroots leaders in the district and all of them tender a mass resignation. A committee was also formed, which will decide further steps to defeat Congress candidates for Jagatsinghpur and Paradip assembly constituencies. They even burnt the effigies of Niranjan Patnaik and Chiranjib Biswal.
