Sambalpur: Even as the Supreme Court has passed strict orders to check the menace of ragging in colleges and universities, the practice continues in various unethical forms. An ritual in educational institutions called 'Introduction' or 'Welcome' is often used as a cover for ragging.

A similar case of mass ragging has surfaced at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla recently. A video showing students, apparently of the first year, dancing to the tunes of their seniors, has gone viral on the social media.

The junior students are literally forced to make unsavoury moves in bare minimum clothing, to please their seniors. While the date on which this video was shot and who were are the students, are yet to be confirmed, the varsity authorities said that action would be initiated after examining the clips.

On the other hand, Odisha Government has ordered a probe into the matter. Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Premanand Nayak has ordered a probe into the incident. "The Registrar of the university has been asked to conduct a probe and appropriate action will be taken after receiving the report," the Minister said.
