Bhubaneswar: Security forces including CRPF, DVF and SOG were on high alert in Odisha through the last week as the Maoists observed a 'Protest Week' from January 24 to 31.

Apart from a couple of incidents, the week was incident-free. In Kalahandi, an earth-mover was set on fire and trees were fell-off in Kandhamal district, said DG Police, Dr RP Sharma.

Security has been tightened on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha Border (AOB) and in the cut-off areas of undivided Koraput district and other areas.

"The Maoists had also called for a Bharat Bandh on Thursday and were desperate to commit acts of violence. Our forces are on high alert to prevent any such act," added Sharma.
