Malkangiri: A hardcore Maoist from Kalimela area of Malkangiri district surrendered before the DIG SWR (South Western Range) Himansu Kumar Lal in Koraput on Sunday in presence of Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.

The Maoist identified as Dhananjay Gope alias Sudheer (27) of MPV-31 village in Malkangiri had joined the banned CPI (Maoist) party in Kalimela Dalam in 2009.

In between 2009 to 2014, he was in Kalimela Local Operating Squad (LOS) and from 2015 till now he was working as Divisional Committee Member (DCM) in Gumma Area Committee under Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakhapatnam Border (MKVB) division.

Sudheer’s role is suspected in over 25 offences and he has been carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakhs on his head.

Development activities carried by the Odisha Government including the Gurupriya Bridge and dispute between senior and junior Maoist cadres motivated him to leave the party.

Sudheer will get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Odisha Government and also get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting trained in a trade or vocation of his choice.
