Man Gets 7 Years RI For Raping Minor In Odisha's Ganjam

Berhampur: A special court here today sentenced a rape accused, Banamali Nayak to seven years rigorous imprisonment. Nayak was arrested by the Digapahandi police for allegedly raping a minor girl on February 1, 2009.

After undergoing a trial for a period of over 10 years, Nayak was sentenced to seven years in RI by the Special Court's Judge, Amit Swaroop Kumar Seth today.

The incident took place at Gokarnapur under Digapahandi police limits in which the minor girl was raped by Nayak. After committing the crime, Nayak threatened the minor girl of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter before her family.

Nayak was convicted under Sections 376, 366 and 506 of the IPC. The court recorded statements of 15 witnesses in this case. The prosecution of this case was led by Public Prosecutor Arati Patnayak.
