Malkangiri: A year after providing potable drinking water to over 19 villages, the Water-Angel of Malkangiri has now organised free computerised eye test camps for people aged above 40 years of his district.

Uttam Malik of MV-88 village of the district, who has earned accolades earlier for the drinking water projects he had set up in the district from his own pocket, had organised the camp from September 14 to 18 at five locations in Malkangiri.

The test was conducted by a team of specialists led by Senior Optometrist Rajeshwar Reddy from KR Reddy Eye Hospital in Hyderabad. While thousands of persons attended the camps, around 3350 persons with some vision issues will be provided with free spectacles.

The free spectacles will be distributed by Uttam Malik Seva Trust to around 550 persons from MPV69 in Sonaligram, 700 in Podia, 850 in Potteru, 550 in Kalimela and 700 in MV 79 in Ram Nagar on October 7 and 9.

A contractor by profession, Uttam is a busy youth who has to shuttle between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for work. He has always raised issues relating to his district with the local and state administration.
