Malkangiri: While heavy rainfall has triggered flood-like situation in many parts of the district, a group of people stuck in the waters were rescued by the police and fire services personnel on Wednesday. The rescue was ordered by Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena who received a distress call from Majhiguda and Kenduguda of Khairput area which have been cut-ff due to rain.

Soon a team led-by Chitrakonda SDPO and senior officials of the Fire Services department rushed to the spot and facilitated rescue operations. The patients who were in need of medical care have been shifted. The whole operation was very risky considering the high speed of the flow of water in the nullah.

"Special thanks to all men of fire department and police personnel on ground who risked their lives while doing rescue operation. Two pregnant ladies, two children and one adult person was rescued and they are undergoing treatment at CHC, Khairput. It is a great example of good coordination between all wings of administration," Meena said.

In the wake of flash floods, the police personnel are on 24-hour duty in shifts. They are keeping a watch on all overflowing bridges -  Potteru, Pangam, Kanyashram, Salappadar, MV-11, Korkunda, Podhkhal and others. "Barricades and red ropes are tied on the both sides of the overflowing bridges. These steps are taken to stop people from crossing the overflowing bridges as it is risky," Meena added.
