Malkangiri: A doctor and his team became saviour for a woman in labour at Kudhidulagunti village of Kurumanur panchayat of Mao infested Kalimela block of Malkangiri district.
As per reports, Dr Radheshyam Jena and his five-member team had been out for a pulse polio drive when they came to know of a woman going through a painful labour. With nearest medical help several kilometres away, Dr Jena immediately rushed to her help.
The team helped in the safe delivery of a baby at her home. However, the woman had another baby on the way and needed treatment for delivery. And since the village had no motorable road, Dr Jena and his team made a makeshift stretcher and carried the woman for 30 km on treacherous hilly terrain.
They took turns to carry the woman and finally made it to Kalimela hospital. However, the second baby could not survive.
The woman and her child were deemed safe and are currently under observation.
While everyone is heaping praises on the noble doctor and his team, this is not the first time doctors posted in the Malkangiri district went out of their way to fulfil their duties. In September 2019, an AROGYA PLUS doctor and an ambulance driver carried a helpless orphan on a sling for five kilometres. Yet again on 6th of this month, a doctor broke the shackles of superstition when he was able to successfully convince a pregnant woman to choose hospital for her delivery.
