Malkangiri: All the Block Development Officers and Tahsildars of Malkangiri district have been instructed by the District Collector on Friday to keep their machinery down the line in high alert to combat any untoward situation in view of the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
In his letter to all BDOs and Tahsildars, Collector Manish Agarwal stated that as few area have been sub-merged and major bridges and culverts are on inundation, utmost care should be taken to shift the submerged / low line/ vulnerable area people to safe places preferably to the refer school buildings and Multipurpose Flood shelters.
He has further asserted that in case of necessity, free kitchen should be provided to the affected people as per the relief code norms. Proper sanitation and safety measures should be adhered within the flood shelter center. Peoples those who are staying in mud/Kutcha houses shall be evacuated on priority. Besides, the local Medical Officers should be contacted for any health issues for the purpose of affected people in the flood shelters.
All other measures as deemed necessary shall also be undertaken to save lives, property and to reduce inconvenience to people. Hourly reports on rainfall and shifting of vulnerable population and other updates shall be submitted, the Collector added.
