Malkangiri: Ajay Kumar Baitharu, Malkangiri Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) on Sunday squashed reports of six infants’ death due to an unknown disease in last 15 days at MV-79 Tamanapalli here.

Certain media houses had reported the death of six infants in last 15 days while another seven to be still suffering from an unknown disease. Incidentally, all the deaths were reported from Kalimela hospital at MV-79 Tamanapalli.

However, CDMO Baitharu rubbished the reports in a telephonic conversation to OMMCOM NEWS. He said that these deaths occurred in the last six months and not last 15 days. He added that there were multiple reasons behind the infant mortality such as malnutrition of mother, and premature births. The CDMO will be conducting field visits with his team of doctors to collect samples and take a stock of the situation.
