Bhubaneswar: Mahanadi Tribunal today directed both Odisha and Chhattisgarh Governments for sorting out the water sharing dispute by reaching an amicable solution.
The Tribunal also ruled today that the final verdict will be pronounced on March 9 if the solution as directed by the Tribunal is not reached between the two States.
Today, the Tribunal completed its hearing on the interim application. In the application, Odisha has pleaded for 1.74 million acre-foot water during non-monsoon months, stated reports.
The 3-judge Tribunal headed by Justice Khanwilkar has also directed both the States to submit all the requisite data and information with proof within two weeks. This direction was given as the two States have already submitted their respective affidavits.
The Tribunal’s last hearing was on December 15 when Odisha had been asked to submit an affidavit citing detailed information on the rainwater flow in Mahanadi over the last 20 years.
