LPG Cylinder Explodes In Military Train's Pantry At Puri Railway Station

Puri: Two persons sustained burns after a cooking gas cylinder exploded inside a military train at Puri on Wednesday. The incident took place in INS Chilika Special which had come from Delang to Puri for a periodic maintenance. According to preliminary reports, the explosion occurred in the pantry car of the train while a couple of LPG cylinders were being unloaded from a rack.

The injured have been shifted to Puri district headquarters hospital. He is undergoing treatment at the ‘Burns’ ward of the hospital, and is currently under observation.

The mishap occurred at around 5 pm in the evening when the train was stationed on the second platform. Fortunately there were no passengers inside both compartments adjacent to the pantry car, when the LPG kit blasted off.

The glass panes of the compartments have been completely damaged in the incident. Two teams of Fire Services rushed to the spot and controlled the situation which led to a chaos at a crowded station of the Pilgrim town.

The window panes of Puri-Tirupati Express which was parked close to the Military train was also damaged in the explosion.Railway officials and senior officers of Fire Services are on the spot and conducting an inquiry into the mishap.
