Malkangiri: A youth who was going to his lover's house to finalise their marriage was left partially blinded after being attacked by the girl's uncle at Inchimetla village under Undrukonda panchayat in Kalimela block of Malkangiri district on Friday. A complaint in this regard was lodged at Kalimela Police Station today.

Reportedly, the youth identified as Bhima Madkami of Parsanpali village under Materu panchayat of Podia block in the district was in love with a girl of Inchimetla. Assuming that their families will not accept their love, they had left fled to Andhra Pradesh around one month back.

It was after their family members came to know that they were working as bonded labourers in Andhra Pradesh to earn their livelihood the duo was brought back promising to conduct their marriage.

On Friday evening, Bhima received a call from the girl to come to her house as her parents had decided to finalise their marriage. It was around 8 PM when Bhima was going to the girl's house he was attacked by her uncle and his associates. They thrashed him severely and also poked his right eye with a wooden stick. It was after Bhima fell unconscious they dumped him in the nearby forest and left the spot.

After gaining consciousness today morning, Bhima somehow reached the main road where he was rescued by some people and admitted at Podia Community Health Centre (CHC). Later in the evening, Bhima along with his family members reached the Kalimela Police Station and lodged his complaint following which police has assured to nab the culprits soon.
