Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out on the fifth floor of top medical hospital Apollo in Gajapati Nagar area here today morning. Here are the updates:

12:20 pm: Patients waiting outside the hospital to be taken inside. Nurses seen fanning the patients and respiration support also given to some. Around 15 critical patients have been shifted to other patients, informs CEO of the hospital.

12:10 pm: Commissioner says that a glass had to be broken to douse the flames. Commissionerate Police conducts on-spot investigation.

12:05 pm: A patient, who was in Bed 414 on the fourth floor says, "I saw the thick smoke and started panicking. Soon after that I heard the loud siren and the hospital authorities informed us to evacuate the place. The nurse and staff helped us in coming outside of the hospital safely."

12 pm: The hospital authorities should initiate an in-house enquiry, says Commissioner. Authorities should be careful and regular fire audits should be done to prevent such incidents in the future.

11: 55 am: Situation is normal and operation of lift has been stopped as a precautions, says Satyajit Mohanty.

11: 50 am: Satyajit Mohanty tells OMMCOM NEWS that there was a short-circuit in the maintenance room.

11: 45 am: Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty and DCP Anup Sahoo at the spot.

11: 40 am: Patients being evacuated on wheel chairs through the emergency exit.

11: 35 am: No casualties or injuries have been reported.

11: 30 am: Fire has been doused, informed fire officials.

11: 20 am: Thick cloud of smoke seen on the floor and the stairs.

11: 15 am: Patients from ICU along with the high-end equipments were shifted to safety.

11: 10 am: Two fire tenders were deployed at the spot to douse the flames.

11:00 am- Fire breaks out in the battery room on fifth floor of high-rise building.
