List Of Important Structures Around Puri Srimandir To Be Razed Soon!

Puri: Odisha Cabinet's seal of approval for removal of structures around the temple up to 75 metres from the boundary wall on all around has sparked off resentment among the denizens in the pilgrim city.

While many small shops will be evicted and businessmen will suffer, here is a list of historically significant structures that add to Puri Srimandir's legacy and now stand at risk of being demolished.

1) Markendewsar Water Tank

2) Daitapati and Singhari Sevak houses

3) Manikarnika Sahi

4) Baseli temple

5) Kapal Lochan temple

6) Emar Matha

7) Naguli Matha

8) Badachata Matha

9) Radha Ballabh Matha

10) Utar Parswa Matha

11) Balaramkota Matha

12) Panjabi Matha

13) Raghaba Das Matha

14) Dakhina Parswa Matha

15) Kousalya Das Matha

16) Languli Matha

17) Sanachata Matha

18) Nepal Bhaban

19) Manipur Bhaban

20) Assam Bhaban

21) Pratihari Nijog (office of a servitors' organization) 

22) Raghunath Library

In addition to that, parts of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) office and Raj Nahar (the royal palace of Gajapati) also fall in the 75 metre radius.

While locals of the area have objected the Cabinet decision and have threatened protest, tourists and pilgrims have welcomed it as it will ensure their safety. Puri Collector Balwant Singh said, “We surveyed the structures near the boundary wall of the temple. Details on it and where would the offices be shifted to will be known soon.”
