Bhubaneswar: Two railway staff has been suspended by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Saturday hours after a video surfaced showing the gates of a level crossing were wide open when an express train moved past.
Reportedly, train number 18451 Tapaswini Express passed the Siddha Mahavir Level Crossing Gate on the outskirts of Puri when the gate was in open condition. After receiving a video of the incident DRM, Khurda Road, Braj Mohan Agarwal constituted an enquiry committee of four senior officers.
Preliminary findings revealed that Loco Pilot Govind Sahu and Assistant Loco Pilot Umesh Kumar had stopped near the gate for 1 minute fifty seconds time and then proceeded towards Puri station with the gate in open condition.
The ECoR mentioned that ideally they should have ensured that the gate was to be closed before proceeding towards Puri. The gate is an interlocked gate, meaning that the gate is connected to a signal. This gate signal was in red condition, meaning the gate was in open condition. So, there is no problem with the gate signal.
Based on the findings, Govind and Umesh were suspended from their respective duties pending detailed final report of the committee.
