Leopard's Carcass Recovered In Tigiria, Poaching Suspected

Bhubaneswar: Carcass of a female leopard aged about four years has been recovered from Kundali forest in Haridapasi area of Tigiria under Athgarh forest range in Odisha's Cuttack district.

The leopard's carcass was discovered by Forest department officials early in the morning on Monday, reports said.

The big cat which is suspected to have died of electric shock after getting itself entangled in live electric wires set-up by poachers was brought to Tigiria forest office by the department's officials, reports added.

On being informed, Athgarh District Forest Officer (DFO) Sasmita Lenka has arrived at Tigiria Forest office.

Till last reports came in, autopsy of the dead leopard was underway.

Forest department officials said that the real cause behind the death of the leopard will be known only after the autopsy report is out.

The department has however, claimed that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.
