Bhubaneswar: Members of the Bhubaneswar Bar Association staged cease-work demanding shifting of Orissa High Court from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar. This strike has been a practice for the past several years in line with the decision of our General Body, said Bhubaneswar Bar Association vice-president Silabhadra Sastry.

"Since 1990 we have been demanding the shifting of High Court to the Capital City which has expanded enormously in length and breadth. Several memorandums have been submitted to former Presidents and Lok Sabha Speakers in this regard," Sastry added.

The association expressed anguish over the fact that despite several representations the political leaders are not forthcoming on this issue. "We have three MLAs and an MP from Bhubaneswar. But have never heard anyone of them raising this important issue of shifting the High Court to the State Capital, in the Assembly or Parliament," Sastry added.
