Odisha: 4 Feared Dead, Many Injured After Landslide In Talcher MCL Mines

Angul: In a midnight mishap, four workers are feared dead and several others have been injured after they were trapped in a landslide at Bharatpur coal mine of Mahanadi Coalfields here in Talcher.

The incident occurred between 11:30 pm last night when coal blasting was underway. In effect of the blast, a portion of land collapsed causing a landslide and trapping over 10 workers, heavy-weight vehicles and equipments.

The open cast mine in Odisha, with production capacity of 20,000 tonnes a day, has been shut after the accident. “It will take at least a week to resume operations,” informed officials.

Mining officer, Angul Collector, senior police officlas, fire personnel and social workers rushed to the spot and began rescue operation. 

While 10 workers were rushed to Nehru Shatabdi Central Hospital for treatment, rescue operations are still on as four more workers are suspected to be under the debris.
