Bhubaneswar: An on-duty lady journalist of a web channel was manhandled by the staff of a mall situated in Rasulgarh area of Bhubaneswar on Saturday when she had gone to report on the illegal parking fees collection at the establishment.

Reportedly, despite a ban by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on the collection of parking fees in commercial establishments, shopping malls and hospitals, few establishments including Esplanade One had again allegedly started charging visitors for vehicle parking.

As per a complaint filed at Saheed Nagar Police Station by the lady journalist identified as Swati Jena, during a live reporting of the issue, employees of Esplanade One manhandled her and fellow camera person.

While sources said that the mall is collecting the fee on the pretext of an interim order issued by the Orissa High Court (HC), the attack on the lady scribe have been condemned by many.

Twin City Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi in a media statement stated that, "Incident of an alleged attack on a media team has been reported. FIR is being registered in Saheed Nagar PS. We are securing all the visuals and will act strictly in accordance with law."
