Keonjhar: A lady ASI was thrashed when she was present to intervene a distressed couple at Padanpur village under Ghasipura police limits of Keonjhar district, today.

As per reports, Padanpur’s Padmalochan had married Padmini of Jajpur’s Sukinda about nine years ago. But the couple was having issues since long and it had reached a point where both of them had filed a complaint against each other.

Speaking on today’s matter, Anandapur Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bidyut Panda said, “Padmini with her family had come to Padanpur so that both families can sit together to resolve the issues. However, the discussions led to arguments which elevated to a fight between the families. A police team with ASI Anuradha Sethi arrived and tried to intervene.”

He added that to cool things down she insisted the girl’s family to leave the village with them. At this time one of the agitated villagers punched ASI Sethi on her face.

ASI Sethi bore injuries on her right eye. She was taken to hospital immediately and is said to be out of danger currently, police sources.

A case was lodged in this matter and a probe has been initiated.

SDPO Panda also said, “Attacking an on-duty police official is a condemnable act and comes from an absolute lack of knowledge on basic law. Residents of Padanpur village denounced the act and have asked the police to bring the culprit to justice.”
