29 April 2019

Jajpur: Despite being a part and parcel of democracy, aggrieved villagers across Odisha reportedly boycotted the fourth and final phase of polling as a mark of protest over various demands.

Reportedly, over 1000 voters of more than 300 families in Baragadia Dalitsahi in Sukinda Assembly Constituency boycotted the polls. They cited inaction of administration in shifting them from Kalinganagar industrial area as the reason behind their step.

Three villages in Patkura under Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat also boycott elections demanding compensation for kin of a deceased youth, who was killed in a road accident on Sunday. People of Naliapala village under Garei panchayat under Erasama Assembly seat in Jagastsinghpur boycott polls too demanding provision of basic amenities.

Reports also stated that villagers of Dokadiha under Bahalada block in Mayurbhanj district boycotted the elections alleging absence of basic facilities in the region.

Amidst all these, about 35 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm today.
