Bhubaneswar: 1986-batch Odisha cadre IPS officer Abhay, who is presently heading the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), was appointed the DG of Odisha Police in a late evening reshuffle on Wednesday.
In a career spanning over three decades, Abhay has held important positions in central agencies such as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
He has also served on international deputation to Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation and in various capacities headed Indian delegation for agency level talks with Myanmar, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Russia and Indonesia and represented India in UN Conference on Narcotic Drugs.
Some of the positions he had held during his long tenure are Additional DGP (Crime Branch) Odisha, ADG (Training) in CRPF, Director (Training) in BPR&D, Director General of NCB, DIG of Bank Frauds and Security Cell in New Delhi and Director of CBI Academy.
Abhay has received Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. He is scheduled to retire from service on June 30, 2021.
