Bhubaneswar: While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inspired quite a few fashion trends, it is Naveen Patnaik's craze which dominates political fervour in Odisha. The Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack witnessed a large demand for kites with the images of Modi and Naveen embossed.

With the festival of ‘Makar Sankranti’ around, kite lovers from all age groups were seen thronging at the bylanes of the two cities negotiating with the shopkeepers for specially designed – Naveen-kites and Modi-kites.

Dedicated to Lord Surya, every year, Makar Sankranti is celebrated to welcome spring and is associated differently with different traditions. In Odisha, while BJD is honing all strategies to clinch its fifth term, the saffron party is making all efforts to dent the regional party’s invincible record.

On this note, the petty traders of Odisha, are in no mood to miss out on the political slugfest between the two parties. As a result the Twin-City markets are flooded with Modi and Naveen kites.

With general and assembly elections barely three months away, the State is sure to see more of such antiques through which political parties can reach out to masses and gain mileage.
