Kidney Donor Priyanka's Family To Receive Suraj Award

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will be felicitating family members of late Priyanka Patra, whose cadaveric donation gave a fresh lease of life to two critically sick persons, with the Suraj Award.

Patnaik has hailed the sacrifice of Priyanka's family members and the effort of the doctors who successfully carried out Odisha's first-ever cadaveric kidney transplant.

The Chief Minister has also announced that the State Government will bear the entire treatment cost of Priyanka's daughter who is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals here.

As per reports, Priyanka of Ganjam’s Digapahandi succumbed to her injuries in Apollo hospital, which she bore after a nasty accident. Even though the family was in grief, they approved the organ donations.

On Monday night, a team of doctors from SCB Medical College and Hospital arrived at the Apollo hospital to harvest Priyanka’s kidney. While one kidney was rushed in a special ambulance to SCB and transplanted to one Khirod Sahoo, another was transplanted on a patient in Apollo Hospitals.
