Bhubaneswar: The National Health Mission (NHM) has applauded Odisha's efforts in the area of immunisation coverage efforts during Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) held in 2017-18. In a letter to Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, Mission Director, NHM, Manoj Jhalani stated that Ganjam and Khurda districts have achieved more than 90 per cent full immunisation coverage through intensive efforts.
The NHM Director has requested the Chief Secretary to arrange for the availability of the CDMO and Collector of these districts at a commemorative event where the top-ranking district will be awarded. The Health Ministry will organise this event 'On Pulse Polio Silver- Jubilee' at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on October 31.
India has been polio-free since 2011. The long battle against Polio started in 1994 from the state of Delhi and a year later it was scaled up across the country by Government of India. “India was declared polio-free in March 2014 after the relentless efforts by our States and Districts, health workforce, partners, community influencers and celebrities,” Jhalan’s letter read.
