Khimji Jewellers Issues Clarification On Weight, Purity After Minister's Remark

Bhubaneswar: Soon after Odisha Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain stated that some top and reputed jewellers in Bhubaneswar have been caught cheating consumers in weight and purity, Khimji Jewellers have issued a clarification in this regard.

In its defence, Khimji Jewellers has produced an inspection report by Inspector, Legal Metrology, Bhubaneswar-I.

The report issued on November 22 states that inspection had been carried out at the premises of M/s K D & Sons Pvt Ltd, Plot No 621 at Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar.

As per the findings regarding metrological accuracy, all the electronic weighing scales are showing correct weight.

The report further stated that all the verification certificates were exhibited in a conspicuous place of the trade premises, except one as per provisions of Orissa Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.

The jeweller has also claimed that though the hallmarking scheme of BIS is voluntary and is to be compulsory from 2021, Khimji Jewellers has been 100% BIS hall marked since past 16 years and the first to do so in eastern India.
