Keonjhar Court Awards 20-Yr RI to 6 For Gang Raping Minor

Keonjhar: The Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge, Keonjhar here today awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to six persons for gang raping a minor.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Lokanath Sahoo awarded 20 years RI to the six accused under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act read with section 376-D IPC, section 506 read with sec 34 of IPC and under section 3 (1) (xi) of the SC & ST (PA) Act. In addition to the above sentence the convicted persons will be required to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each in default to undergo RI for one year each under section 376-D of the IPC.

The convicted persons had gang raped a minor girl aged about 14 years in Barbil police limits in Keonjhar district on 7th November 2015. The accused were arrested on 10th November the same year.

The court has also awarded a compensation of Rs 5,00,000  to the gang rape survivor. It has directed the District Legal Services Authority, Keonjhar to deposit the said amount in an interest bearing fixed deposit account in any nationalized bank in the name of the victim to avoid mis-utilization of the said amount.
