Kendrapara: Internal bickering in the Kendrapara District BJP Committee took an ugly turn on Friday when the saffron party’s district panel on the day resolved expulsion of its special invited member-cum-veteran leader Bijoy Mohapatra from the national party.

Besides the senior BJP leader, expulsion of his supporters has also been strongly recommended by the party’s district unit.

This was informed by Kendrapara District BJP Committee president Durjyodhana Sahu at the press conference here.

Convening a press meet, Sahu burst, “The way Bijoy Mohapatra is resorting to disturbances for the last six months, damaging the party organization here and specifically yesterday some of his supporters created pandemonium at our party meeting where some Congress and BJD leaders were slated to join BJP. Those supporters of Bijoy Mohapatra shouted slogans hailing Bijoy Mohapatra. They shouted that minus Bijoy Mohaptra they wouldn’t allow BJP organization to flourish further.”

“They started beating our people, dismantled our meeting pandal, hurled abuses at our party workers, also abused the Union Minister, raised slogans against the Prime Minister and Amit Shah. Hence, we today hereby expel him from our District BJP Committee. He was embraced as the special invitee by district panel here. We’ll demand before the State party unit and Central unit to oust him from the BJP soon for his anti-party and indicipline,” the District BJP president lambasted.

On the contrary, Bijoy Mohapatra in his media reactions said, "I'm happy and welcome it."

Speaking to media, the seasoned politician initially hit back, "I’m yet to know about the statements of the party district president. Neither anything written form has been received by me nor anybody has discussed about the matter with me.”

“If at all they have taken such a decision, I convey my hearty thanks. I welcome the right decision. For the past few days I have been noticing that the party’s one and only agenda is to fight against Bijoy Mohapatra instead of fighting for the people’s cause, raising issues of the people and State’s interests and registering protests before the State Government,” he slammed.

Mohapatra also lambasted, “I also convey my hearty thanks to those who are conspiring against me in a bid to get me out of the party. If they think that the party will be stronger and flourish more minus me, it’s most welcome.”

Such a step comes in the wake of the violent scene witnessed at BJP’s Gadarpur meeting when Bijoy Mohapatra’s supporters allegedly ran amok and the venue of the meeting turned into a virtual war front while the meeting got sabotaged.

The visibly enraged supporters claimed to be of Bijoy Mohapatra created ruckus vehemently protesting against the alleged by-passing and step-motherly attitude towards Mohapatra by the BJP State leadership.
