Kendrapara Communal Tension: Curfew Lifted As Violence-Hit Area Limps Back To Normalcy

25 January 2019

Kendrapara: As violence-hit Kendrapara is slowly limping back to normalcy, curfew has been lifted here today morning at around 6 am but Section 144 remains in force in the area.

The curfew was lifted after a peace committee meeting was held in the SP office here last evening. The district administration, police officers and the two conflicting groups were present in the meeting. As per a decision taken in the meeting, a peace rally is all set to take place with both the communities today. As per reports, schools, colleges, markets and other business establishments also remained open in the morning today without any opposition.

Further on January 26 on the occasion of Republic Day both the communities will together celebrate the birth anniversaries of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai at the High School ground where the clash had occurred.

Notably on January 23, communal tension threw life out of gear in Kendrapara after two groups clashed during celebration of Netaji Jayanti. Soon after things went out of hand, prohibitory orders had been clamped in the town on Thursday. To check rumour mongering on social media and mobile phones, internet connectivity had also been regulated in the town. Sub-Collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra ordered a curfew in Kendrapara town from 4 pm on Thursday till 8 am today.
